About me

As a rule, I don’t like to talk about myself in a blog or anything else.  I always hate those interviews where they ask you to tell them about yourself.  And those awful questions like “what are your future goals” or “where do you see yourself going in this company” and worst yet “why do you want to work here?”  Um, because I need a job.  Hello?

Well, for starters, I am a writer wannabe.  I have a story to tell but because I don’t like to talk about myself, I have yet to write it.  And now I am a grandmother (and soon-to-be great grandmother) so I need to get it done although my daughter is much better at writing than I am.

I have been through the ‘school of hard knocks’ you might say although I know there are many people (particularly these days) who have gone through a lot in their young lives. It’s very sad.  But I try to remember what the Bible says:  it rains on the just and the unjust.

I have been a born again believer since I committed my life to Jesus at the age of 18. Even before I made a commitment, I knew in my heart that I wanted to serve the Lord.  I just wasn’t committed before then because of the “junk” that was going on in my life.

I have a loving husband, two daughters, and five grandchildren.  And that’s enough talk about me for now.  I hope you enjoy this website.

Suddenly Destruction Comes by Penny Chavers

If God does not intervene, we will, in fact destroy ourselves . . .

Jeremiah 4:20 Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is spoiled: suddenly are my tents spoiled, and my curtains in a moment.

What’s the noise all about?  Every day when we turn on the news, we hear of yet another disaster or another shooting either in our local area or somewhere in our country.  It’s a constant daily occurrence.  It never stops but rather increases.  Why is this?

We have become a spoiled people — a nation who wants our way about every minute detail of our lives.  We are so bored (especially our children) that we feel we need more entertainment.  We want more attention so we create drama where is none.  Our youth cannot get the attention they need from their parents so they act out to draw attention.

Fathers are either absent from the home and have abandoned their children or they abuse their children and their wives.  But it doesn’t stop there.  Even mothers are no longer mothers but have also become abusers themselves and/or users of drugs and alcohol.  So the children either are left to themselves to get into mischief or they run away from home and get into criminal activity.

The fabric of our society has drastically changed.  Prayer has been taken out of our schools so now teachers and students are no longer allowed to even speak the name of Jesus without retribution.  By the time our kids get into college, they no longer believe in God because our society and educators have brainwashed them into believing there is no God or that there are “many ways” to God.

Our churches have become emptied of youth and even a lot of adults have dropped out.  Some drop out because they have become disillusioned or confused.  And it’s no wonder — the fact is many of our churches are only providing a “watered-down” gospel where “sin” is no longer viewed as sin.  Right is “wrong” and wrong is “right.”

And now it is getting harder and harder to get a group of people (even Christians!) to agree on anything.  Everyone has a negative response to every comment or post no matter how sincere the person is who creates the post.  Every word is taken out of context and turned completely around.  Everyone insists that their view is the right view on every topic under the sun.  They do not want to compromise in any way on anything — no matter how simple the matter is.  If someone presents a good idea or solution to a problem, they immediately have negative responses thrown at them.  I think the problem is that every one wants to be the one to get the credit so they will shoot down everyone else’s ideas.  It’s a power struggle — a struggle to be right or to be in the limelight.  Or they just simply like to provoke debate no matter what!  And then there are those who just have a negative outlook on everything!

All this goes back to a spoiled nation — everyone wanting their own way so they kick and scream just like spoiled children do!

If God does not intervene, we will, in fact, destroy ourselves without God even lifting a finger!

In spite of all of this,  God still loves us!  He has shown us the clear path to righteousness.  He sent His only son to be our example of what love is and how we are treat one another.  We need to learn from the example of Jesus — He became humble and loved even the vilest of sinners.  Let us learn from His example.

Thank goodness for His everlasting love and mercy — He doesn’t give up on us!

It’s a Sad Time by Penny Chavers

Over the past week, we have all been in shock over the sad event that took place in South Florida.

Over the past week, we have all been in shock over the sad event that took place in South Florida.  There were so many innocent lives taken that it just bewildered  and puzzled us as to what possible purpose could the shooter have for doing such a violent act.  What is so bewildering about it is that so many people were suspicious of the boy and yet nothing was done to stop him BEFORE he committed this insane act.  Since this horrible act, there have been copycat threats to our schools.

There were some at the school that showed a lot of courage and sacrificing themselves for others.  I sympathize with all those families who were affected and I pray for them that the Lord Jesus will give them peace and comfort their hearts.

In this present age that we are living in, such violence just keeps happening all over the nation and in other nations.  Lord, we pray for peace in our nation and heal our nation.  If we, who are called by His Name, would humble ourselves and pray, and seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways; then we will hear from Heaven and He will forgive our sin and heal our land.

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

In the Blink of an Eye by Penny Chavers

What can happen in the blink of an eye? . . . . just like the wind, we cannot control . . .

What can happen in the blink of an eye?  In the blink of an eye, you can lose everything you own through a disaster like a tornado.  A tornado can come up so fast and furious that you have little or no warning.  It can rip right through your home and destroy everything.  In the blink of an eye, your life can be snuffed out in a car wreck on the highway.  One wrong move or wrong decision while driving can cause you to swerve into an oncoming vehicle or vice versa — someone can swerve into you.

There are so many things that we do not have complete control over — no matter how hard we try.  Our life is but a vapor — just like the wind — we cannot control where it goes.  Only the One who made the universe and everything in it can control what happens in this life.  That is why we need to pray to the only one who can control events and circumstances in our lives.  Otherwise, we are at the mercy of these events that can happen in the blink of an eye.  Should we just leave everything to chance?  Or should we pray and put our trust in the One who has the power to control these things?  If we submit our lives to Him, Jesus, our Savior, then there is one blink of an eye that we can look forward to.  When He comes back for us, we can be changed in the blink of an eye — changed from corruptible to incorruptible — changed from darkness to light — and we can live with Him forever and ever.

How awesome is that????

Your Calling by Penny Chavers

For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance . . .

What is your calling?  Do you know?  We were all created with some sort of purpose.  God put in each one of us a calling (see I Corinthians 7:20: Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called; and Ephesians 4:4: There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling).  Like it says “let every man” abide in his calling — not one, not some, but every man (or person).

It is up to us whether or not we fulfill that calling though.  He will not force His will upon us.  He gave us freewill but He never changes His mind about our calling as Romans 11:29 says:  For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.  He did not call us according to our own wisdom or stature.  In I Corinthians 1:26, it says: For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.  He doesn’t need those who are stuck on themselves.  He wants those who will be humble because pride goes before a fall, which is what Lucifer did.

Our calling is not for our purpose but for God’s and it is a holy calling (2 Timothy 1:9: who has saved us and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began).  He knew us before we were even born and He knew exactly what He wanted each of us to do.

He wants us to seek Him and search out our calling.  We do that through prayer and reading His Word (2 Peter 1:10: Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall; Ephesians 1:18: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints).

Miraculous by Penny Chavers

. . . who is millions of miles away from the earth . . .

There is nothing more miraculous than the birth of Jesus Christ.  To be born of a virgin definitely qualifies as miraculous!

What is even more miraculous is that the Creator of the Universe, who is millions of miles away from the earth, loved us so much that He sent His son, His only son, to this earth to die for our sins.

Another miraculous thought is that even though we should look like tiny dots to Him running around here on earth like teeny tiny ants, He knows the very number of the hairs on our head.

As you celebrate this Christmas, think about the Miraculous Birth of our Lord and Savior!

Be Blessed this Christmas!

Worthy by Penny Chavers

If we think we are not worthy . . . .

Are we worthy?  We, as Christians, think we are not worthy to look upon the face of Jesus or worthy of anything that He may want us to do.

But wait?  If we think we are not worthy, we are belittling what Jesus did for us.  He died and spilled his own blood so that we would be worthy.   He knew us before we were born so He knew what He wanted us to do with our life and also knew when and how we would accept Him as Lord and Savior.

So we are worthy to look upon His face and we are worthy to be used of Him.  It’s time we realize that and stop acting as if we are nothing.  He called each and every one of us.  He has a purpose for us.  No matter what has happened during our lives, we are called.  He knew every thing that would take place, good and bad.  All of it has been for a purpose.

If you do not know the Lord — have never accepted Him as your Savior, you can.  Salvation is a free gift and Jesus died for all of us.  So accept Him into your heart today and your sins will be washed away and you too will be worthy!

Black Friday Craze by Penny Chavers

It has become a popular annual tradition.

(using many of the daily word posts: see the words in bold/italicized)

The Gremlins are out for the Black Friday sales.  It has become a popular annual tradition.  Our friends and our neighbors, who seem to be so normal, go through a transformation when this day comes around.  Suddenly, they become like toxic sludge, a mixture of mud that is unrecognizable.  They succumb to a temporary state of mind which causes them to seek a particular trademark of an item they just have to have.  And when they find it, they will clutch it for dear life until they can get out the door with it in their hands.

Enlighten me please — why has this Black Friday tradition become such a risky business?  You have to be brave to venture out on this day because if you cross the path of one of these Gremlins, it could cause a riff.  Just the thought can make you faint and stiff.

It’s the way of the world now in which we live — the gifts have to be the most fashionable, the most popular, it’s what kids expect and it’s what they prefer.  No longer do they stick to the rule “do not peek.” So, on this Black Friday, these nice friendly neighbors come out and, even though there is no gratitude, they refuse to deny the desires of their children, grandchildren, and all, so they push and they shove just to get the fluff and all the other stuff in the mall.

So what does it matter if someone gets hurt or dies in the rush?  As long as they get what they are after — right?

Who cares if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?

Too Many Interests by Penny Chavers

People have many interests . . .

People have many interests including myself.  It’s good to have interests but sometimes we have too many interests to maintain.  It would be good if we could focus our attention on specific interests – those that we love the most and eliminate the rest.  Too many interests takes up too much of our time and then we do not become proficient in any of them.  I, for one, have more interests than I can handle. There are just so many things that I want to learn and become good at.  For example, I love to play the piano but I don’t have enough time to practice so I can become proficient at it.  And I love to sew but there are just not enough hours in the day to do all these things that I love to do.  Maybe one day, I can really decide which interest I want to really focus on and become good at it.

Elastic Humor by Penny Chavers

There are many forms of elastic . . .

If your elastic is plastic you will be fantastic!

But if your elastic is paper, it will be drastic!

Paper clothes are for paper dolls

not for people who shop in malls.

There are many forms of elastic

For many a use and type

such as wash and wear so people won’t stare.

But what’s up with all the hype?

And who is going to care?

Cotton and rubber good for swimwear

So, in saltwater, it won’t tear.

Polyester can be a bit stiffer,

But I beg to differ.

Some shrinks less

but if it comes undone,

it will be a mess.

Some is made of acetate

But hold on to your plate

It must be hand-washed

and not suitable for swimwear.

Oh what a bear (bare)!

This elastic humor is going to get you nowhere!
